New arrangements

I’ve just been out to the hens with some mash … pellets, oats and sultanas mixed with some warm water. It’s almost dark, but I took my camera with me …

From the left, that’s Mandy (purple ring), Bertha (green), Babs (yellow) and Betsy (red). Not that you can see the colours in the mud! It continues to rain, and the ground is sodden … I must dig over the woodchip to break it up a little. We’ve had to put roll out path around the Moppet House …

It won’t preserve the grass (there’s none left on the far side) but stops us churning up the mud and making it even worse. And just for perspective, this is the proximity of the Moppet House to the Hen Run …

The fencing is arranged in such a way that we can allow either brood onto the grass, or both (which isn’t likely to happen), but really, the Vicarage girls have enough space … I just have to keep them supplied with greens. They love them. The Moppets, however, are dismissive of anything that isn’t carbohydrate!

  • HEN NEWS LATEST

    March 2017 ... All change in the hen garden as the fruit cage run is retired in favour of an electric fence, the veg beds are relocated to put the hens on fresh ground, and the new girls arrive, Dorcas, Delilah and Deanna.

    January 2017 ... Bird flu outbreak and all domestic foul are quarantined until the end of February.
